Taylor Davis – Can’t Take His Eyes Off You

taylor_davis

I am not a huge fan of Baseball.  DON’T KILL ME or SEND ME DEATH THREATS!  But I am a HUGE fan of my hometown boys the Indianapolis Indians and do enjoy going to their games.  Part of the reason is because of how personable the players are with their fans.  And although this player now plays for the CHICAGO CUBS…he shows us exactly why these players are lovable!

godvine--news-anchors-crack-up-at-baseball-players-faces-on-camera

These news anchors cannot stop laughing at this jokester of a baseball player. As you watch this video of Iowa Cubs catcher Taylor Davis you will see how funny these camera shots really are.

This player has a lot of fun finding the video camera in the crowd of baseball fans and making funny faces at it. I have no idea how he does it. It seems like every time the camera is recording a closeup of him, he somehow knows.

It’s refreshing to see a sports player have a sense of humor while continuing to play such a serious game. This video had me giggling so much I almost cried!

Now…you have to watch two different videos to appreciate this!

The Flintstones – Public Nuisance

fileupload-1552932968132-articleLarge

It is pretty sad when people object to you building Dinosaurs, Woolly Mammoths and Fred Flintstone piss off the neighbors!!!  Check this out!

Design

The house was designed by architect William Nicholson and built in 1976 as one of several experimental domed buildings using new materials. It was constructed by spraying shotcrete onto steel rebar and wire mesh frames over inflated aeronautical balloons. It has approximately 2,700 sq ft (250 m2) of living space including three bedrooms, one accessed via a spiral staircase inspired by an ice-cream cone that at the top is the same diameter as the room, and two bathrooms, and has a two-car garage. All the interior surfaces are rounded, and the master bathroom has a floor of rocks instead of tiles. Originally off-white in color, the house was repainted deep orange in 2000, and one of the domes was later painted purple.

Nicknames

The house is known popularly as “The Flintstone House”, from The Flintstones, a Hanna-Barbera Productions animated cartoon series of the early 1960s about a Stone Age family. It is also known as the Dome House, the Gumby House, the Worm Casting House, the Bubble House, and “The Barbapapa House”, from Barbapapa, a character and series of books created by Annette Tison and Talus Taylor in the 1970s.

Disrepair, restoration and remodeling

By the mid-1980s the house had fallen into disrepair, as water runoff from higher on the mountainside damaged the foundation, causing the walls to crack. After failed attempts at sealing the cracks, it was extensively restored in 1987.

San Francisco Bay Area architect Eugene Tsui undertook to remodel the house during the first decade of the 2000s. The results of Tsui’s remodel appear as the “Edises Kitchen” project, pictured on Tsui’s website. Tsui’s original concept for the remodel, including a proposed complementary second residence on the property, is detailed in depth on his earlier site.

In late 2017, new owners installed large oxidized steel sculptures of dinosaurs, a woolly mammoth, a giraffe, and Fred Flintstone in the yard.

Complaint

The house was unpopular with some neighbors, and inspired the formation of a local architectural review board. In March 2019, the town of Hillsborough filed a complaint against the current owner of the house, Florence Fang. The complaint alleges that the current owner’s modifications are a “public nuisance” and that she did not receive the proper permits for her modifications. In March 2019, Fang retained the law offices of former San Francisco Mayor Joseph L. Alioto and Angela Alioto to respond to the Hillsborough Complaint.

Scotty – The Largest T-Rex To Roam The Earth

Scotty

Does my Mom know me or what???  An article about the Largest T-Rex ever???? This is right up my alley!!  And it HAS MY NAME!!!!!

“CBS This Morning” got the first glimpse at the largest tyrannosaurus rex ever to have roamed the Earth. The massive creature, named Scotty, weighed an estimated 20,000 pounds — about 8,000 more than the average T. rex — and will soon go on display at the Royal Saskatchewan Museum in Canada.

Researchers don’t know if it’s a boy or girl, but named it Scotty because when they made the discovery, they celebrated with a toast using the only spirit on hand: a bottle of scotch.

Scotty was found back in the early 1990s in Canada’s Badlands, which were popular dinosaur stomping grounds, reports CBS News’ Jamie Yuccas. It took almost a decade to pull it all out of the ground and it wasn’t until recently that scientists realized just how big it really was.

Scott Persons was at the original dig site and led the team reconstructing Scotty. He says its bones reveal Scotty had a tough ride back in Mesozoic times.

“Scotty lived a hard-knock life. It’s got evidence of a broken jaw, an impacted tooth, a section of its tail where the vertebrae seem to have been compressed possibly from the bite of another tyrannosaur,” Persons said. “These are not injuries from a single injury in his life but from a continued life of a lot of lumps.”

Paleontologists believe Scotty weighed nearly 20,000 pounds, or about as much as six and a half Volkswagen Beetles. Scotty was such a behemoth it edged out Sue, the famous T. rex at the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago, which was 40 feet long and weighed more than 18,000 pounds.

Wes Long spent more than 10 years unearthing Scotty’s bones from the ground and helped reconstruct the carnivorous king.

“You are in awe of what you are uncovering. You will be zipping away with your air hammer and all of a sudden a piece of rock would fly off and there is like a beautiful tooth there, and you are just like, ‘Wow, this thing, it’s huge, like massive,'” Long said.

Scientists found they had about 65% of the skeleton intact, including the skull and lower jaw; vertebrae from the neck, back and tail; and parts of the hips, leg and shoulder. All the parts make up an astonishing sight people from all over the world are coming to see.

Asked why people love the T. rex so much, Long said, “Well, it’s just has had that long history even in pop culture as being the big bad dinosaur, and it’s just one that people could really identify with. … It’s just been a popular dinosaur throughout history.”

Scotty will go on display to the public this Friday. In addition to its size, it has other claims to fame: for instance, when it roamed the earth nearly 70 million years ago, it likely reached its 30th birthday, making it the longest-lived T. rex on record.

5 Things You Didn’t Know About Peanuts

charlie-brown-gang

I grew up LOVING the Peanuts comic strip, books and television specials.  They were my escape when I hated school and reading anything else.

But as much as I loved this gang of characters…there were a few things I did not know (until my mom sent me this email).

So here are 5 things you didn’t know about Peanuts:

The Character of Franklin Got His Last Name From a Cartoonist Who Had Grown up Admiring Franklin

Yes, that’s correct. Franklin, the African-American boy who Schulz introduced in the 1960s, did not have a last name until the 1990s. Robb Armstrong (the cartoonist who created JumpStart) had grown up reading Peanuts and was heavily influenced by Schulz’s inclusion of Franklin. When Armstrong signed up with United Feature Syndicate, he sent a drawing to Schulz of a JumpStart character referencing Snoopy and later found that Schulz had framed the strip and displayed it on his wall. The two became friends, and when Peanuts was going to have a video special released, Schulz asked Armstrong if Franklin could use “Armstrong” as his last name.

Peanuts Was Originally Called L’il Folks  (just for clarification…I did know this one)

Schulz’s first version of Peanuts was called L’il Folks, and it debuted as a weekly panel in the Saturday Evening Post in 1947. The strip was kid-centered but did not contain many of Peanuts’ most famous characters, including Snoopy and Linus. When Schulz signed a contract and expanded the strip, he had to change the name because L’il Folks sounded too close to L’il Abner, another comic strip. Schulz said he actually wasn’t a fan of the new name but kept drawing because the work was worth it.

The Interior of Snoopy’s Doghouse Has Been Seen Only Once

And it’s like the Peanuts kids’ version of a TARDIS—bigger on the inside and containing exactly everything needed for the episode (because every doghouse just happens to have chemistry equipment stored away). In the animated special It’s Magic, Charlie Brown, Snoopy heads into his doghouse, which turns out to merely be an entrance. In the few minutes you see him inside, he walks down a staircase into a giant basement locker room and workspace in which he attempts alchemy.

Schulz Really Did Die the Night Before His Last Sunday Strip Ran

This is a morbid fact, but the timing is so stunning that it should be mentioned. The last original daily strip ran on January 3, 2000, but Schulz still had some Sunday comics ready to go. Those continued to run until February 13, 2000. However, Schulz died in his sleep in the evening of February 12, 2000, so on Sunday morning, readers were faced with a double whammy of a sweet goodbye from the strip and news of Schulz’s death.

The Most Controversial Character of the Strip Is… Snoopy?

When the Peanuts strip first started, Snoopy was emotional and easily influenced by the other characters. He provided the visible reaction to what the others were saying, which, in the early days, was usually rather depressing. Toward the end of the 1960s, however, Snoopy’s character gained confidence and tended to take on more of an independent role that was not as influenced by the other characters. You might call this a natural progression, but the switch from reactive Snoopy to independent Snoopy made many readers uncomfortable. His confidence has been called narcissistic, shallow, and alienating. Still, Snoopy remains one of the most popular Peanuts characters.

Never Gonna Give You Up…

rick-astley-never-gonna-give-you-up

So….I was quite surprised when I got an email from my mom about the Famous Rick Astley Song – Never Gonna Give You Up.

Never Gonna Give You Up” is a song recorded by British singer and songwriter Rick Astley, released as a single on 27 July 1987. It was written and produced by Stock Aitken Waterman. The song was released as the first single from his debut album, Whenever You Need Somebody (1987). The song was a worldwide number-one hit, initially in the singer’s native United Kingdom in 1987, where it stayed at the top of the charts for five weeks and was the best-selling single of that year. It eventually topped the charts in 25 countries, including the United States and West Germany.

The music video for the song has become the basis for the “Rickrolling” Internet meme, leading the song to have an alternate name “The Rickroll Song”. In 2008, Astley won the MTV Europe Music Award For Best Act Ever with the song, as a result of collective voting from thousands of people on the internet, due to the popular phenomenon of Rickrolling. The song is considered Astley’s signature song and it is often played at the end of his live concerts.

But then…I watched the video that was included with the email….and I saw WHY she sent it to me!  THIS IS FREAKING AWESOME!!!
