The Netflix Penis Drawing

Netflix-penis-drawing

Ok…so I am a little late to the game on this one since I think it happened in 2017…but here is the scoop:  An artist of a kids TV show on Netflix decided to draw a penis on a tree during one of the episodes. And…it made a mother mad. Not my mom though….she sent me the article complete with pictures and videos! LOL  Here is the original article:

Last week, Netflix released the first season of American Vandal, an eight-episode documentary parody of true crime stories like The Jinx and Making a Murderer in which the central mystery revolves around someone spray-painting penises on teachers’ cars in the school’s parking lot. But now it looks like Netflix has a real life dick mystery on their hands, because an angry mother has noticed that an artist snuck a drawing of an erect penis into the background of a children’s cartoon that airs on the streaming service.

BoingBoing picked up the mother’s reaction to the picture on Facebook, where she apparently said, “I know I’m not going crazy and I am aware that something like this shouldn’t be in a kids’ show whatsoever. I’m extremely disgusted by it; there should be no reason my children have to see something like this. I don’t know if they’re gonna do something about this or what but there’s no reasons why this should be in this show.” (The post itself is private, so that quote is relayed from The Mirror, who apparently has someone on staff who’s friends with this woman.)

For the record, as of the time of this writing, Netflix has not done anything about it…yet. Since I’m doing important journalistic work here, I checked on the veracity of this claim myself, and indeed, the dong is clearly visible in the background of an episode of Maya the Bee, as seen in the screenshot at the top of this page. For anyone wanting to see it for yourselves, it’s in episode 35 of season one, and can be seen inside a log at the 18:45 mark.

Update: The controversy must have reached the ears of Netflix executives, because the episode in question has now been removed from the streaming site.

The Netflix Penis Drawing Isn’t An Isolated Incident

While we aren’t certain of the reasoning behind why an artist would decide to include this dick-drawing in the background of a children’s TV series, this is far from the first time something like this has happened. While many of the claims that have popped up against companies like Disney are erroneous and falsified products of the digital age or unprovable whispers from oversensitive parental groups, there were a number of incidents that were proven to be true.

  • Charles Shows, who worked at Walt Disney Studios in the 1950s and ’60s, recounted in his book that he and a few other employees intended to test Disney’s notorious eye for detail by slipping a single frame of a naked woman into a reel of a Mickey Mouse cartoon they were screening for him. Sure enough, Walt spotted it. But that frame was never meant to be seen by the public.
  • Years later, a home video release of Disney’s The Rescuers was recalled in 1999 due to the discovery of a couple of frames of a real photograph of a topless woman in the background of one shot of the lead mice characters in the movie. (We can’t publish those screenshots here, but you can see them at Snopes.) Disney representatives at the time claimed the photograph was inserted not by one of their artists, but by someone in the post-production process.
  • Claims of an erect penis being hidden in the undersea castle in posters and the VHS cover of The Little Mermaid are complicated to grapple with. Snopes says they spoke to the artist, who told them the dick-shaped tower was an unfortunate coincidence. In any case, the story that it was inserted by a disgruntled artist angry at Disney about being laid off by the studio doesn’t hold water, because that artist worked for a third party company. But still…that kind of looks like a dick to me.

  • And you’ve likely heard the one about the word “sex” being visible in The Lion King when Simba lays down on the grass and kicks up a bunch of grass and particles where the letters can maybe be spotted…if you’re looking hard enough. You can decide for yourself if you believe that claim by watching the video.

Long ago…before he was famous….Eric Stonestreet revealed on Saturday, July 29, that he once worked as a security guard for a Garth Brooks concert 22 years ago.

The Modern Family actor, 45, shared an Instagram slideshow of himself protecting the country superstar, now 55, at a show. In the first throwback photo, Stonestreet stands below the stage as Brooks interacts with fans. The singer signed the photo, writing, “Eric, Love you pal.”

In a second photo, Stonestreet looks serious while guarding Brooks as the musician performs a song on his guitar. The “Friends in Low Places” crooner wrote on the snap in a silver pen: “Here’s to circles.”

The Bad Teacher actor reminisced about his pre-fame job, captioning the pic, “In 1995 I worked security for A (ONE) Garth Brooks concert in Manhattan Ks. Last night I finally got to say you’re welcome for keeping him safe that night and basically giving him the wonderful career he’s had thus far. Thank you Garth for the amazing night I had with my #crew slash #squad #circles.”

The two stars reunited backstage at Brooks’ show at The Forum in Los Angeles and posed for a photo together.

Crying About The Big Bang…

My wife and I both are cry babies when it comes to a lot of movies, TV shows, songs, etc. We admit it…we own it….we are ok with it.

But usually….we don’t cry during comedies.  It just doesn’t typically happen! But then there are those moments…when the writers tug at our heart strings…and do things that make tears well  up in our eyes!

Little did we know…that even the actors have this happen.  At least…not until Mom sent me the following article:

Grab the tissues! The Big Bang Theory cast revealed that they got emotional on set during Sheldon’s proposal to Amy in the season 10 finale, which aired in May.

During the show’s Comic-Con panel in San Diego on Friday, July 21, the stars discussed the mood on set before the big moment between Sheldon and Amy. “I take Polaroids on set, so we must have — what do you think? — hundreds of Polaroids at this point that are all up on our little wall of shame in the wardrobe room, so I obviously I went up to get my camera for this moment,” Kaley Cuoco (who plays Penny) said. “I knew we were gonna do it and I had to get the photograph on my Polaroid, and I came down and basically everyone and everyone’s mother and friend was behind the camera for this one scene even though we all knew what was gonna happen, but I started crying!”

Kunal Nayyar (Raj Koothrappali) chimed in, “We were all crying. We were all crying.” Johnny Galecki (Leonard Hofstadter) added, “I came as close to crying as is possible for me.”

Cuoco, 31, said it was amazing to see how much their characters have grown since the CBS series premiered in 2007. “You see so many years and so many relationships have transformed and to see that be the pinnacle of the season, it was just really cool and we’ve all just come a long way,” she said. “We were all kind of crying.”

The group also discussed their favorite Comic-Con memories after a decade of participating in the annual event. Showrunner Steve Molaro recalled interrupting an emotional moment between Cuoco and Galecki, 42, who secretly dated for two years in the show’s early seasons.

“It was our first year here, it was ten years ago and it was 1:30 in the morning and I was going past the hotel bar and I saw my co-workers, Kaley Cuoco and Johnny Galecki,” Molaro said. “I thought, ‘Hey, I’m gonna go hang out with them.’ I didn’t know a) They were secretly dating and b) They were right in the middle of a fight, so I walked up and I could see she’s about to cry and I’m like, ‘I’m gonna go.’ And [Kaley’s like], ‘No, it’s fine! No, stay!’”

Cuoco joked that the awkward encounter brought them closer. “I think it was a great bonding moment. I come to you now for all my relationship problems ever since that day. I don’t remember what we were fighting about,” she said. “I forced you to stay, for sure. It’s a good memory though, isn’t it?”

Earlier this year, the show was renewed for two more seasons, which will take the show through season 12.
